Jose Canseco Loses Finger in Gun Accident

Ummm…there’s really no better way to start this one by just jumping into it.

Jose Canseco shot himself in the hand Tuesday afternoon while cleaning his gun in the kitchen of his Las Vegas home. According to the former slugger’s fiancée Leila Knight, Canseco did not know the weapon was loaded and the shot ripped through the middle finger on his left hand.

Canseco was taken to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada for treatment. Doctors have already told Knight that, even under the best circumstances, the 50-year-old will never have full use of the digit again.

The embattled former outfielder has been attempting an image makeover of late. Canseco spent a chunk of this past summer touring the country in a 40-foot custom RV headlining the “Jose Canseco Homerun Challenge Tour” raising money for charity.

The former Oakland A’s superstar is even hoping to, someday, end up back in the big leagues.
