Joseph solid in Toros win

On Tuesday the San Antonio Spurs reassigned rookie guard Cory Joseph to the NBA D-League to play for the Austin Toros, his third trip thereJoseph solid in Toros win this season. Last night he played in his first game back with the Toros, and it was his most productive this season.

Joseph finished the game with 25 points on 7-17 shooting including 12 points in the third quarter. He also dished out 6 assists and grabbed 4 rebounds to help the Toros come back from a 31-17 deficit after the first quarter to win 113-103 over the Iowa Energy.

This is uplifting news for Spurs fans. I wrote a post a few weeks detailing what I thought about Joseph coming to the NBA too soon and how he needed to spend some time getting some real minutes in the D-League. If he continues to shine for the Toros and get some real experience he could be a huge benefit to the Spurs some day.

I’m not going to say he’s ready to hop back up to the NBA after one solid game. I’d like to see him string a couple of productive games together, but this is a good start. But it might be tough seeing how the Spurs are set to add guard Patty Mills. With Tony Parker, Gary Neal and Mills able to handle the point guard spot, Joseph might be in Austin for a while.
