The students at Pickering High School got a surprise guest last week and that guest was San Antonio Spurs’ rookie Cory Joseph. Joseph played basketball at Pickering during his early high school days before getting into a prep-school in Nevada to gain admittance into the University of Texas.
Joseph visited with the students and then played in a basketball event with the varsity basketball team.
Even though Joseph would rather be getting ready for training camp to start soon, he’s taking the time to make the most of his opportunities in visiting with his family and the community where he grew up in,
“It’s been great. Obviously when you get the chance, with a busy schedule, to come home and spend time with your family, friends and come back to your old school where you used to play at, it’s great,” said Joseph, who played for Canada at the FIBA Americas championship this summer.
Joseph is already showing signs of the example that players have when involved with the Spurs’ culture. He’ll have to begin a lot of preparation on the basketball court as he showed many areas where he’ll need improvement in the FIBA Americas tournament earlier this month.
