The Sox suffered their first loss in 10 days last night and Josh Beckett took the mound in hopes of putting a stop to that. The night was Beckett vs. Hellickson. Beckett entered the game with the lowest ERA in the AL, but also having a 1-3 lifetime record at the Trop.
The game ended up being a classic pitcher’s duel. Hellickson was wheeling and dealing…and it seemed like another night where the Sox could not get anything against him. Well, until the 7th inning. Pedey hit a triple with one out. The Rays decided to walk Gonzo in order to face Youk and hopefully set up the double play. However, Youk had other ideas and knocked the ball out of the park. The Sox lead 3-0 and that is all they would need. Other than the HR to Youk though…Hellickson pitched quite well, he was just facing the man known as Josh Beckett.

To say that Josh Beckett was AWESOME, AMAZING, SPECTULAR, DOMINANT…is an understatement. He was in complete control. He gave up one hit…and that was just *barely* a hit. He faced 28 batters, threw 98 pitches and threw a complete game shutout. Seriously. Domination. The Rays had no chance and in a little over 2 hours, the game was over with a lovely Sox win!
Josh Beckett’s current ERA is 1.86. Wowza.
