Josh Beckett Signs Contract, Tim Wakefield to DL

Josh Beckett, eligible for free agency after the 2007 season, has signed a three-year extension, kicking in next year. The terms of the contract were not revealed, but has an option year (with vesting incentives) for 2010. This news was announced by Terry Francona after today’s game.
The Boston Globe reported that Tim Wakefield has a fractured rib, and is almost certain to go on the DL. Kason Gabbard, who has risen quickly in the eyes of the Boston organization, will be called up to the majors to start Saturday against Seattle. He began the season with the Portland Sea Dogs, going 9-2 with a 2.57 ERA. Promoted to Pawtucket, he had a 4.97 ERA in five starts, going 1-3.
