Josh Brown suffers an achilles tendon injury

Temple basketball received the worst news possible this past Friday, when it was learned their starting senior point guard Josh Brown suffered an left Achilles tendon injury. Brown reportedly suffered the injury while playing at the Owls’ practice facility.

Brown developed into Temple’s hardest worker on the court and consistently played well each game. Brown was ranked 8th nationally last season in assist-to-turnover ratio and averaged 8.3 points per game and 4.9 assists per game; also led the AAC in minutes per game with 36.2.

The loss of Josh Brown will put more pressure on Temple’s incoming class. Freshman Alani Moore, who was already going to have a significant role this season,  will have to play a lot this year and another freshman, Quinton Rose, who can handle the ball quite well, could see some time at point guard.

The Owls also can go to sophomore guard Levan Alston Jr., who only played 10 minutes a game last year and had 19 assists in 31 games. Alston Jr. will probably see the bulk of playing time at point guard to start the season, however, Alani Moore or Quinton Rose could very well play their way into the point guard role.

Brown will have surgery to repair the left Achilles tendon on Wednesday and the timetable for his return is uncertain. Temple will need guys to step up and mature quickly with Brown out and it will be interesting to see what the Owls have.
