Maybe that desperation pass play downfield would have worked if rookie 6-4 receiver Josh Doctson were the target instead of 6-0 Pierre Garcon and 5-10 DeSean Jackson.
Height and good hands are why the Redskins drafted Doctson in the first round. But he missed preseason and had minimal chances at game time to make up for it. Hog Heaven never saw him as a major contributor this year.
But for those two passes with 16 seconds left, when the Lions had a 6-7 defensive lineman at deep safety, a long, tall receiver might have made that one catch to put the Redskins in position for the tying field goal.
It’s enough to make a GM punch a hole in the wall.

Matthew Stafford’s two passes from the Redskins’ 18 to Golden Tate were well-covered by Greg Toler and then by Su’a Cravens. I don’t see how Josh Norman could have done it better.
Norman suffered a concussion in the third quarter defending a deep ball completed to Marvin Jones. If he were available, you’d think the ‘Skins would have deployed the secondary differently and that it would have made a difference.
Oh well!
The Redskins will spend a tense week finding out if Norman will be available for next Sunday’s game versus the Bengals in London. You just know Norman looked forward to going up against AJ Green.
