2010 Bucs Lookback- Freeman, Josh

Make no mistake, no one is more responsible on the field for the Bucs turnaround than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2009 1st round draft pick Josh Freeman. The Bucs traded up to pick Freeman, and to prevent the Broncos from taken him first.

The knock on Freeman was his accuracy, but then again the critics said Emmitt Smith was too small to play tailback in the NFL. So much for the critics.

Josh Freeman sat on the bench his rookie year, watching veterans Luke McCown and Byron Leftwich. Both of those QBs prevented Freeman from getting any decent valuable reps in practice, but after turning over to Josh Johnson, the Bucs in week 9 of the 2009 season decided to make their move. Freeman practiced during the bye week following the Bucs trip to London, where he actually got his first snaps as a Buc.

Coming as Garbage time, Freeman completed his first pass in Wembley Stadium, and the radio call was done by the immortal Bucs announcer, Paul Stewart, of the Bucs UK!

His performance against the Green Bay Packers in week 9 was nothing short of awesome. He threw for 3 touchdowns in that game and led the Bucs from behind, something he has become known for in his short time as the Bucs field General.

It wasn’t long however before the bubble burst a little. At Carolina, Josh threw 5 interception while trying to comeback against the Panthers. He would fall short in this game, but the lessons learned here would be fuel for his fire.

In the 2010 offseason, Freeman promised himself he would spend enormous time practicing, and his goal was to look like a 5th year QB, not a second year one.

That goal was realized quite well with his 25 touchdowns, only 6 interceptions, and a 95.9 QB rating.

Big things are expected of Josh Freeman in 2011.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                To Check out the Josh Freeman video in your browser click here…
