Either Josh Norman really likes the defensive scheme in Washington or he’s sending a message to Odell Beckham Jr.
“I’m like a rogue savage out there, so I’m playing ball at the highest level of speed,” the Redskins cornerback said on ESPN 980, via The Washington Post, “I don’t need to think much; I just need to go.”
While Norman clearly enjoys the freedom he’ll have in his new defense, perhaps he chose the words “rogue savage” to intimidate Beckham. The two are scheduled to face off twice this year after a chippy matchup in Week 15 last season. Beckham was suspended for a game after drawing three personal fouls, including a helmet-to-helmet hit on Norman in which he gave himself a running start.
The Redskins signed Norman to a five-year, $75 million contract after he was named First Team All-Pro with the Panthers in 2015. Norman intercepted four passes, returning two for touchdowns, in the first four weeks of the season. According to Pro Football Focus, Norman yielded a 54.0 passer rating, the best in the NFL.
In Washington he’ll make a lot of money trying to help improve a defense that was 25th in the league with 4,128 passing yards allowed.
