Jozy Bags a Brace and a European Rundown

USMNT star Jozy Altidore scored two goals while returning to the starting lineup for AZ for the time since December 12. The 22 year old went the full 90 as AZ drew Heerenveen 3-3. AZ currently sits two points behind league leaders PSV. Jozy now has 13 goals in all competition as he joins USMNT for the upcoming friendly against Italy.


Liverpool lifted their first trophy in six years as the Reds defeated championship side Cardiff in the Carling Cup Finals in penalty kicks. Cardiff went up 1 to nil in the first half only to lose the lead to Martin Skertle goal. The game went into extra time when Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt gave them the go ahead goal in the 108th minute. The resilient Cardiff battled back to score another goal a few minutes before stoppage time and forced the final to PK’s.


Keeping in it England, Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs celebrated his 900th league game with a dramatic stoppage time winner against Norwich. Manchester United is trying to keep pace with cross town rivals and league leaders Man City. It was smooth sailing for City as they blew past the Blackburn Rovers in a 3-0 rout.


Over in Italy AC Milan and Juventus battled to 1-1 draw in one of the biggest games in serie A. Milan went ahead of Juve after Noccerino’s long range shot which took a deflection and ended up in the back of the net. The talking point of the game occurred moments later when Mutari headed the ball and it visibly crossed the goal line and yet the referee did not call the goal. That missed call could end up costing AC the scudetto.


Finally in Spain Cristiano Ronaldo scored a cheeky goalazo as Real beat cross city rivals Rayo Vellecano. Ronaldo’s goal was the lone goal in the fixture as Real Madrid continues their winning form.
