Just like the Civic Arena and Star Lake, we’ll probably still call it Consol

night-shot-of-consol-energy

he barn on Fifth Avenue has a new name: The PPG Paints Arena.

According to upgruv, Consol Energy approached the Penguins a year ago about being replaced as the naming sponsor. Recently, PPG swooped in and made a new deal.

Sure, Consol Energy Center was a boring name. And the back-and-forth on whether or not to ALL-CAPS the spelling of it was annoying (at least to me), but we can probably all agree that PPG Paints Arena has too much of a stuffy, corporate ring to it.

Alternatives:

PPG.

The Big Paint Can.

The Big Paint Bucket.

The Paint Room.

The Points Per Game Arena.

The Power Play Goal Arena.

Power Puff Girls Arena.

The Colored Igloo.

The Rainbow Mellon.

Phil Kessel’s House sponsored by PPG.

Mike Richards’ Favorite Arena.

The Pee-Pee Pants Arena.

The Bob Ross.
Looking forward to:

“The Penguins look to paint the walls red with the blood of their opponents…tonight at the PPG Paints Arena!” – Mike Lange probably

“The period was a good primer for what will surely be a great game, as the players now leave the canvas for the first intermission.” – Paul Steigerwald, probably

“He’ll head to the box after a brush with the law.” – Bob Errey, probably
