Wisconsin played two primetime Big Ten football games last season, taking on Illinois and Ohio State on the road. On Tuesday the Big Ten Network released its primetime games and Wisconsin wasn’t on the list. Following the ESPN/ABC announcement last week, it means Wisconsin won’t be playing in primetime outside of it’s season opening matchup against LSU from AT&T Stadium.
It shouldn’t come as a shock considering who it plays and when in 2014. Nothing about Bowling Green, USF, Illinois or Maryland scream primetime. As for the Nebraska game, well considering it’s a mid-November game the chances for a primetime slot were minimal to begin with.
Do you want to give up prime ESPN/ABC mid-day billing for the primetime slot on BTN? Which has more eyeballs watching it on a national basis?
Math says ESPN is the better bet for that matchup anyway. So, for those craving the return of the atmosphere that was Nebraska’s opening salvo in the Big Ten, forget about it — ain’t gonna happen.
Wisconsin last faced a schedule without a Big Ten primetime matchup in the 2009 season, when it went 10-3 on the season and beat Miami in the Champ Sports Bowl.
