Well that was a bumpy week two to say the least. Unless, you picked the Steelers last week, you most likely were holding onto your chest with either a huge sigh of relief to follow or throwing things at your television, like me.
Although both matchups I picked to win last week were losers, I am back with my tail tucked between my legs to help once again. That is if you’re still reading. Maybe you’ve already been knocked out and are keeping score to mock me, and after last week I sure deserve it.
So now that we’ve gotten my massive mea culpa out of the way let’s see what week three has for us, shall we?
Matchups That Will Help You Breathe Easy:
New England Patriots over the Jacksonville Jaguars: Like I said in week one, it really isn’t a genius strategy to pick the opponent of the Jacksonville Jaguars, I mean look how that strategy worked out for me with Washington. However, alleged cheater or not Tom Brady is a machine and the Patriots should have no problem steamrolling Jacksonville. These aren’t the Jaguars of the past few years where they are expected to lose every game, but they are nowhere near the Patriots level. Although, the Jaguars have the better defensive numbers on the season, their growing offense won’t be able to keep pace with Brady and the Patriots. This one is about as safe as it gets.
Seattle Seahawks over the Chicago Bears: At least one team will get their first victory in this game. After an abysmal start, I think this is where the Seahawks bounce back. For one thing, the Kam Chancellor holdout is finally over and the Legion of Boom (at least as it stands now) is back. Seattle is one of those teams that is was too good to be 0-2 and this is the game where they finally find themselves on the winning side of the ball this season. Expect Jimmy Graham to play a more pivotal role going forward as he recently voiced his displeasure with playing decoy for the Seahawks offense. Pair that with a Bears team that just looks awful, and this is the time to pull your Seahawks card.
Matchups That Will Give You Heartburn:
Atlanta Falcons at the Dallas Cowboys: The Falcons have come out looking like one of the best teams in the NFL in the first two weeks. With the absence of both Dez Bryant and Tony Romo, Atlanta should have no problem pulling away with this victory, but the Cowboys will find a way to stay in it. While Atlanta is the better team, I’m leery that this could be a trap game, so proceed with caution.
New Orleans Saints at the Carolina Panthers: Currently Drew Brees’ status is up in the air. While he is confident that he can play on Sunday it hasn’t been made official. Regardless if whether or not it is Brees under center the Saints need a win so their fan base doesn’t start calling them the Ain’ts again. It isn’t the most favorable matchup being that it’s a division game and the Saints are the away team. They will be playing with desperation which can go either way. I wouldn’t want any parts of this one.
Matchups That Might Cost You Money:
Cincinnati Bengals at the Baltimore Ravens: This week more than one 2-0 team will fall and first up in that I think will be the Bengals. After a haggard showing against the Raiders last week, I expect the Ravens to bounce back this week against the Bengals. This has been a weird season already with all of the 2-0 teams and even more surprising the 0-2 teams. It could make for complicated playoff race riddled with tie-breaker situations. The Ravens will show up for the home crowd and walk away with the victory. So don’t just go by record here.
Philadelphia Eagles at the New York Jets: Again, undefeated teams can’t stay undefeated forever. This new life that is being breathed into the New York Jets is impressive, but there are plenty of Eagles (the coach included) who know they could be one step closer to the unemployment line if Philadelphia drops this game. The Jets don’t give up a lot of points overall so there can’t be too many missed opportunities for Philadelphia, and despite it not being part of the normal game plan they have to start burning some clock. The defense needs rest too. If the Eagles can keep their defense off the field for substantial chunks of time throughout the game they have a chance to win this one. I think this is one of the matchups that has trap written all over it.
Well that’s my synopsis of this week; hopefully we all do better in week three than most of us did in week two. If you’re following along, I am going to pick the New England Patriots overall this week. Make sure to pick wisely, and I’ll be back next week!
Week 1: Dolphins
Week 2: Rams
Week 3: Patriots
