Tonight against the Mariners, Verlander can be the first Tigers pitcher since Mickey Lolich in 1964 to go six innings in five straight starts without allowing more than four hits. Verlander hasn’t given up more than four hits in a start since April 22, but he only threw 5.2 innings in his April 27 start.
It’s not the only streak he’s on right now, too. The other one, which we’re hoping he doesn’t extend tonight, is his six straight games of throwing 115+ pitches. It’s currently two games longer than his previous streak of four straight starts (of 120+ pitches) to end the 2009 season.
