Just weeks after Marvel casted Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, the studio made a decision regarding Luke Cage. Marvel announced that Mike Colter will be taking the role of Cage in Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series, A.K.A. Jessica Jones.

Colter isn’t a household name but he has had  some success on the small screen. He has been on both The Good Wife and American Horror Story, but his new role will give him a chance to be a leading man. The show’s producer/showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, fully believes Colter is the man for the role.

“Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage.”

Colter will have a lot to live up to as Cage is one of the more intense characters in the Marvel universe. Cage was imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. During his time in confinement Cage develops unbreakable skin and superhuman strength.

Cage’s appearance in A.K.A. Jessica Jones makes a great deal of sense. In the comics, Jones and Cage marry and have a child together. Cage also teamed with another Marvel character Iron Fist, whom is also receiving a Netflix solo show. It is not clear if this is the route the show will take, but his character certainly makes for good entertainment.
