Jeff Karstens makes his first start for the Pirates since the Cardinals bombed him out of Busch Stadium on August 28th. Since July 26th, Karstens has a 6.51 ERA and opponents are hitting .325/.371/.471 against him (with an unsustainably high .379 BABIP), and my expectations are not terribly high for his return to the rotation tonight. The Cards, meanwhile, will try to make up for last night’s embarrassing loss with Chris Carpenter. Tony La Russa will probably try his hardest to foil his team’s chance at winning, but the talent difference between the two teams will probably bail him out tonight.
First pitch tonight is at 7:05.
