Brendon Kay's first start went as well as it possibly could have. Cincinnati blew the doors off Temple 34-10 behind 244 yards and 2 TDs from the senior QB. Kay wasn't exceptionally accurate at 13-21, but he didn't make any mistakes with his passes. He threw 0 passes that had a chance to be picked off. A huge upgrade from last week. I was very impressed by his poise and decision making. He knew when to throw, he knew when to tuck the ball down and run. He had 71 yards. A majority was on a scramble that gained 40 yards.
The most impressive thing with Kay was his ability to throw the deep ball. He threw a perfect pass to Kenbrell Thompkins, and thanks to Temple's safety making one of the worst reads of all time, KT went 75 yards for a TD. With Temple hanging around, Kay threw a picture perfect pass over the top to Chris Moore for a 65 yard TD. It was the first TD catch of Moore's career. He also set his career high in yards with that catch.
A lot of people were crowing about why UC didn't make a move sooner. Today was very impressive, but Temple sucks. I'm not saying don't be excited about Kay because I am, I'm just saying don't retroactively torture yourself with what happened this season. Leave the past in the past. Enjoy Brendon Kay leading our Cincinnati Bearcats to victory.
Yay Kay.
