Keith Bulluck should be a Tennessee Titan for life

Dear Mike Reinfeldt,

How’s it going, Mike? I’ve been very impressed with your personnel decisons over the course of the last offseason or so. From the shrewd decision to draft Chris Johnson to allowing the likes of Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy venture elsewhere, you’ve done an excellent job constructing a team that’s knocking on the door of accomplishing something special.

Of course, your past decision-making isn’t the reason why I’m writing you. As a matter of fact, the subject of this “letter” pertains to a move that hasn’t occurred yet but hopefully, will happen sometime soon.

What move, you ask? A brand-spanking new contract that will ensure that Keith Bulluck remains a member of the Tennessee Titans for the rest of his prolific NFL career.

As a fan, I’m well aware that the NFL is a business. As followers of the Titans, we’ve witnessed the likes of Steve McNair and Eddie George venture to other NFL cities to finish out their playing careers.

As fans of the NFL, the sight of Joe Montana in Kansas City Chief garb or Emmitt Smith as a Arizona Cardinal serve as vivid examples of how the business of the league works. Gone are the days when a guy such as Bruce Matthews spends his entire career with one franchise.

With that said, Mike, I hope that re-signing Keith Bulluck can serve as the exception rather than the norm.

Here’s a guy who was on some of those turn-of-the-century Titan teams that came painfully short of realizing their Lombardi dreams. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Bulluck also survived the cap-purgatory years, a forgettable timeframe when fielding a competitive squad with a 5-11 record was considered an accomplishment.

Through thick and thin, Keith Bulluck’s stellar play has remained a constant. Despite being overshadowed by outside linebackers racking up sacks in stat-happy 3-4 defenses, Bulluck has nevertheless continued to be one of the league’s best (and under-appreciated) performers at the OLB position.

So Mike, I hope you take all of this into consideration as you make your decision on Bulluck’s future over the course of the next year.

Here’s to hoping you and Keith can reach an agreement that will keep Bulluck in Tennessee for the rest of his NFL playing days.

Sincerely,

Titan fans everywhere
