Kemba Walker Named Big East Player of the Week

UConn's Kemba Walker reacts after hitting a three-pointer against Kentucky in the first half of the championship game of the Maui Invitational tournament Wednesday at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, Hawaii. A big reason why the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team is now ranked is because of the play of point guard Kemba Walker in the EA Sports Maui Invitational last week. And for his efforts, Walker was rewarded by the Big East as he was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Week.

Walker was nothing short of spectacular in leading the Huskies to the EA Sports Maui Invitational title in wins over Wichita State, Michigan State and then Kentucky in the championship game. Walker was also named the EA Sports Maui Invitational MVP.

Walker averaged 30 points, four assists and 2.7 steals in those three wins. His 90 points over the three games was the second highest total recorded ever in the history of the tournament.

The UConn men will be back in action on Tuesday night when they’ll host the New Hampshire Wildcats at Gampel Pavilion. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised locally here in CT on SNY.
