Ken Hitchcock comments on Detroit’s controversial OT goal

The Red Wings defeated the Blues in overtime on a disputed goal which was scored with a broken stick. The officials elected to not review the goal (?) and instead decided that the goal counted. One look (here’s the video and overhead) would have potentially altered the game, but the Blues were left asking for answers.

Via STLToday, Ken Hitchcock discussed the play:

“The goal shouldn’t have counted. It was in with a broken stick, we should still be playing. It’s one of those breaks. But in saying that, we took a penalty late in the game that cost us. We should at least be playing in a shootout about now.

What are you going to look at? The game’s over. The referees have left the building. Elvis left the building. We didn’t have a chance to meet Elvis.”

Leave it to Hitchcock to somehow talk about Elvis following a brutal missed call. The fact everyone rushed off the ice was pretty puzzling and it was strange that the officials barely talked to the Blues following the play. Even the broadcast missed the point that the goal was an illegal one. They noted the stick was broken, but they gave Abdelkader credit for finishing the play with a broken stick, this completely missing the point.
