TSN reports that Ken Hitchcock will be an assistant coach for Canada during the Sochi 2014 Winter Games. He will stand behind the bench with Canada's head coach, Detroit's Mike Babcock, and fellow assistant coach Lindy Ruff, formerly of the Buffalo Sabres. The three men will also be joined by Boston's Claude Julien, though the report doesn't indicate what his exact role will be at this time.
Hitchcock will be in a familiar role when Canada tries for the gold in Sochi. He served as the team's associate coach (or assistant coach) when the team competed in the 2010 Games in Vancouver. He also served in this role during the 2006 Games and the 2002 Games.
Pretty sweet coaching staff, right?
It's no surprise that Canada will roll with such an impressive roster of coaches considering the amazing group of talented players the country will deploy on the ice. We're still a ways out before players are named to the roster, but it's safe to say Canada's group of strong minds behind the bench give them yet another advantage. As if they needed another one.
