Kenny Omega Decides To Leave Pro Wrestling Following ‘Wrestle Kingdom 13’ Loss?

Kenny Omega is believed by many fans to be the best talent working in the pro wrestling business today. “The Cleaner” had a great 2018 in New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he rode with The Bullet Club Elite and reigned as IWGP Heavyweight champion.

But could it be that Omega is on his way out of the business? Omega recently spoke to Tokyo Sports and addressed the issue of his future after losing the IWGP Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13.

Chris Charlton, author of EGGSHELLS: Pro Wrestling in the Tokyo Dome, translated Omega’s comments from the interview.

“There is no real place for me to fit, so it’s best for me not to be in (NJPW). I can’t be there working under Tanahashi. I don’t think he’s surpassed me, don’t think he’s better. If we can, I want to face him again. But I need time away, and not just from New Japan.”

This may come as a surprise to many fans, as Omega was believed to be headed to either WWE or AEW after his contract with New Japan expires in January. Kenny does seem custom made for a run in Vince McMahon’s company. But the same could also be said of All Elite Wrestling, which is currently being constructed by fellow Elite members Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks.

Tanahashi, the man that defeated Omega at WK13, also commented on the situation.

“I am one and one with Kenny. I’m always ready to face him again. But what his relationship is with New Japan going forward, I can’t tell you anything about that.”

Fans may remember Omega Tweeting a similar message two years ago. He ultimately did not leave the company at that time.

Whether or not Omega was fully in character during the Tokyo Sports interview is unknown. If he does leave New Japan, he would become the hottest free agent in the industry and would surely make a huge impact despite where he landed next.
