Just in time for Father’s Day, Kevin Costner made his way back to Dyersville, Iowa. And he brought along an expected 12,000 of his closest friends.
Fans of the 1989 film “Field of Dreams” ventured to the iconic farm Friday and Saturday to celebrate the movie’s 25th anniversary and for a chance to have a chance to play catch with Costner.
“He’s an amazing man to just walk out and play catch with people,” fan Joe Gutowski told the Iowa City Press-Citizen.
“I’m really glad that people are playing catch out in the field and not paying attention to what we’re saying,” Costner added.
Friday night, decked out in a plaid shirt, the Academy Award winner joined Bob Costas and his “Field of Dreams” co-stars Timothy Busfield and Dwier Brown for a Q&A. Later, they would join the throng of onlookers for a screening of the Oscar-nominated film.
Saturday…it was time for baseball. The movie’s cast members were joined by two-time Cy Young Award winner Bret Saberhagen, actors Joel Murray and Colin Egglesfield, comedian Jeff Dye and a number of others for a celebrity softball game.
“I’m glad to be here with friends and old acquaintances and making some new ones, and for my children to be a part of this,” Costner of the weekend. “It’s certainly a high mark for me, this little movie, and it remains so.”
