Kevin Garnett out 2-3 weeks

If you’re a Celtics fan, this is not good news.  Kevin Garnett has been benched for the next 2-3 weeks with a knee injury.

However, this blog is decidedly NOT a fan of the Celtics, so we see this as a chance for the Cleveland Cavaliers to take advantage and make a strong move for the #1 seed.

As it stands right now, Cleveland has a small lead in the Eastern Conference, by percentage points.

Bos – 44-12 .786

Boston is in the middle of a tough west coast trip, and the last time they traveled west it was the start of a 2-7 stretch. Celtic fans were concerned before they went west, and now they must be holding their breath.

Tomorrow night they face Phoenix. Amare Stoudemire is out for the game, but the strength of the Suns lies in their overpowering (and seemingly rejuvenated) Shaquille O’Neal. The Celtics have no answer for Shaq without Garnett (and don’t give me any of the but-but-but-Perkins bullshit. he’s a scrub at best).

The following night, they face the Denver Nuggets, who are always tough at home. These two games, coming within 36 hours of the news of their fallen leader, will test the Celtics a lot.

Boston faces the Cavaliers at the Fleet on March 6th. That date falls within the 2-3 week span that Garnett is supposed to be out. It’ll be interesting to see if he returns for that game….and if Boston falls apart a bit in the next few games, expect his return to be rushed.

By the way, if you haven’t seen highlights of last night’s monster performance, here’s a taste.
