Kickin’ It With the Bills: The Moment I Became A Bills Fan

Dear Bills,

I think I’m infatuated with you boys.

My family and I thought for sure that this would be an excruciatingly boring game due to how the first few possessions went down. Then the Raiders just kept scoring touchdowns and you all suddenly couldn’t catch the ball. It was like you were well oiled (ew) and the ball kept slipping through your hands. I actually left during halftime to mow the lawn; thinking that you were still going to be down by a few touchdowns when I get back.

Well, you shocked me again!

Kickin' It With the Bills: The Moment I Became A Bills Fan

I walked into the door and saw that the score was somehow 27-24, the good guys. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I actually thought that I was just bad luck for the team again because that’s what tends to happen. Then Oakland came back…but then you guys did again after a nice catch by Nelson and Fitz couldn’t have looked any happier than a kid on Christmas morning. Then the Raiders tried coming back on a Hail Mary sort of play. They almost did it, but Searcy was able to make the interception before any of the Raiders players could catch the ball. They actually reviewed the play after everyone was out of the stadium but concluded it was indeed an interception. Fitz was already out of the building. Well, maybe.

A strange feeling overcame me during this game. I paced around anxiously as the clock was running down because I was actually frightened of the thought of the Raiders coming back and possibly tying up the game. I cheered like a true fan when Nelson caught the ball to give the Bills the lead. It was similar to me cheering for a Sabres game, which tends to be extremely loud and obnoxious (according to my mother. She just doesn’t understand.) It feels like I’m actually becoming a fan of you guys and I’m not sorry. This is a different feeling than what I had when you went 5-1 at the beginning of 2008. I still didn’t really pay attention to you guys then but now, I’m taking my time to learn the game and who each of you are. I even bought a shirt in the process (Fitzpatrick). I know you’re just 2-0 now but I sort of find football exciting? This is weird.

Now I know New England is probably your biggest nemesis ever so possibly destroying them next week would be pretty awesome. I’m not going to bet on anything but I didn’t think you were going to come back against the Raiders either. Good luck, and I hope I have another positive thing to write about next week.

Go Bills.
