King of the Cage is bringing yet another fight card to the Pacific Northwest. Saturday February 6th at the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, King of the Cage Presents: No Fear. This card features some of the regions top up and coming stars and is capped off with a matchup between two of the best veteran fighters in the state. The fight card is listed below and as always the card is subject to change.

  • Featherweight: Ian Loveland vs. Enoch Wilson
  • Lightweight: Patrick Benson vs. Bryan Nuro
  • Heavyweight: Jimmy Jennett vs. Juan Figueroa
  • Welterweight: Dominic Gutierrez vs. Rex Payne
  • Bantamweight: Journey Newson vs. Joey Ruquet
  • Bantamweight: Jeremy Tavarez vs. Shane Sargent
  • Bantamweight: Oscar Sanchez vs. David Converse
  • Bantamweight: Yumi Matsumoto vs. Lisa Spangler

The Main Event

Ian Loveland and Enoch Wilson are not only two of the best fighters in Oregon, they are also two of the best coaches. Enoch Wilson is the original “Animal” of Animals MMA in Hubbard and Ian Loveland is one of the coaches at Rose City FC in Portland. These two fighters met early on in their careers with Wilson earning a second round submission. Fast forward ten years later and Loveland finally gets his chance to strike the loss from his record. This isn’t just a legacy fight for the two veterans either. Wilson is currently riding a three fight win streak and it would appear he is making what could be a final push to get picked up by a major organization. In the case of Loveland, this fight will be his first in nearly two years and he cannot afford a loss if he hopes to make it back to the UFC. I would be shocked if this fight didn’t steal the show. Loveland and Wilson both come into this fight with a finishing rate of around 90%.

Fighters to Watch

Bryan Nuro: In the night’s co-main event, one of the fastest rising stars on the Oregon MMA scene, Bryan Nuro, gets his chance to fight in a feature bout for the well-known organization. Nuro is currently 3-0 as a professional and has spent most of his career fighting for the Full Contact Fighting Federation. While this should be a considerable step up in competition for Nuro, I don’t anticipate the challenge being something he isn’t ready for. Training and coaching at Impact Jiu Jitsu has given him a strong submission game that can rival just about anyone on the card.

Journey Newson: Newson is one of the more promising prospects in the state regardless of weight class. A very athletic bantamweight, Newson has proven he can work a grinding pace for a full five rounds or finish a fight with submissions. The only part of Newson’s game that seems to be lacking is power. However, his striking is clean for a fighter with just two pro fights under his belt and it’s possible we haven’t seen what he has to offer in the power department just yet. Another product of Impact Jiu Jitsu, Newson will most certainly be looking to set the pace for his teammate.

King of the Cage has proven time and time again that they bring a great product to the table and this card seems to be no exception. Beyond the main and co-main events, this card features a great mix of veteran and up and coming fighters. If you are looking for a good reason to head out to the coast and get away for the weekend, look no further.
