The Sacramento Kings have invited 6-foot-5 shooting guard Joe Crawford to training camp, according to sources close to the situation.
Joe Crawford, the brother of the Atlanta Hawks’ rookie, Jordan Crawford, played his college ball at Kentucky. After being drafted in the second round of the 2008 NBA draft by the Lakers, Crawford spent two years in the NBDL for the Los Angeles D-Fenders, averaging 19.5 points on .457 from the field and .346 from three. Last season, Crawford spent 3 games playing for the Jiangsu Dragons in China, averaging 20.7 point and 5.7 rebounds.
The 6′-4″, 213-pound Crawford, impressed during the Orlando summer league, playing for the Magic. In 6 games, he put up 17.8 points while hitting 6 of 14 (.429) three pointers. He seems to be the player the Kings were looking for when they added Dionte Christmas to their Las Vegas league roster. Christmas got lost in the crowded mix of guards the Kings brought in, finishing with 6.6 points a game in only 14 minutes per.
The Kings have tried hard over the last week to add perimeter players, preferably that can shoot from distance. Joe Crawford will be added to the now growing list of players including Luther Head, JR Giddens, Donald Sloan, Pooh Jeter and Antoine Wright who will fight for a roster spot. Crawford is a long shot but still an interesting prospect.
