According to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski via twitter:
“Free agent guard Luther Head will go to camp with the Sacramento Kings on a non-guaranteed deal, league sources tell Y!”
and according to Yahoo’s Marc Spears via twitter:
“Former Celtic and Knick swingman J.R. Giddens invited to Kings training camp. Giddens says his surgically repaired left knee a lot stronger.”
Both Head and Giddens will fight with Donald Sloan, Pooh Jeter and Antoine Wright for the final 2 or 3 roster spots. Both Jeter and Wright have fully guaranteed deals; the other three come in looking to not only earn a job but a guaranteed pay check.
Head, age 27, has spent his 5 years in the NBA playing for Houston, Miami and the Indiana Pacers. At 6′-3″, 185 lbs, Head has shown to be a quality bench scorer as a combo guard. The 25-year-old Giddens has played for two teams, Boston and New York, in his brief two year career. At 6′-5″, 215 lbs, Giddens has better size than Head, but is 0-10 from three in his career.
As a betting man, I will be placing my money on Luther Head to not only make the team but to have an impact as a perimeter bench scorer. Head’s career .388 shooting percentage from three separates him from the rest of the grouping as does his experience. As a late addition, Head has a real chance to fill an obvious weakness in the Kings’ current rotation.
