The Sacramento Kings announced on Monday they have hired assistant coach Vance Walberg. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Beginning his career at 22, the 58-year-old California native earned extensive experience as a prep and college coach with programs such as Fresno City College and Pepperdine University. Walberg wet his feet in the NBA and became an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets in 2012, the same season George Karl won Coach of the Year.
Walberg most recently served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers from 2013 to 2015. He is credited with formulating the dribble drive motion offense, a system currently used by coach John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats.
When Walberg and Karl worked together in Denver, the Nuggets led the NBA in points and field goals made per game.
