The Sacramento Kings won’t repeat as Summer League champions after falling to the Golden State Warriors in game 4 by the final, 83-67.
Holding a 47-40 lead at half, the Kings’ offense imploded. Sacramento shot 1-for-18 from the floor and were outscored 20-4 in the third quarter. They weren’t helped by the absence of Willie Cauley-Stein, who missed most of the period after banging knees with Stefan Nastic.
The Kings never recovered from their third period meltdown. They were outscored 43-20 in the second half and shot 36.4 percent for the game. It was a sharp contrast from Tuesday’s match versus the Warriors, when Sacramento made 51.5 percent of their field goals in a 90-71 win.
In 20 minutes, Cauley was pedestrian statistically with six points and four rebounds. Yet he made an impact defensively with end-to-end hustle and three official blocks to show. A unrecorded chase-down swat in the second quarter was his fourth.
David Wear reached double digits for the third straight contest with 13 points, adding six turnovers. David Stockton produced 17 points, four assists, two steals and three turnovers, and Duje Dukan scored 10 points. Eric Moreland had seven points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
2015 NBA champion James McAdoo led the Warriors with 20 points and nine rebounds. Providence’s LaDontae Henton notched 18 points and seven boards. Kevon Looney, the 30th pick of last June’s draft scored 11 points.
With the defeat, the 1-3 Kings move to the losers bracket in tournament play. They’ll face the Miami Heat at 1:30 p.m. PST on Friday.
