*** Updated** Kings continue coaching staff changes, add Smart

Big news coming out of Sacramento in regards to coach Paul Westphal’s coaching staff.  Per an official Kings press release:

SACRAMENTO, CA —- Sacramento Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie today announced the hiring of Keith Smart and Bobby Jackson as assistant coaches on Head Coach Paul Westphal’s staff. Additionally, the Kings hired Dwayne Wilson (equipment manager) and announced the promotions of Pete Youngman (director of sports medicine) and Manny Romero (head athletic trainer).

Smart was relieved of his duties as Warriors Head Coach in April following a 36-win season.  Although Smart led the Warriors to a ten game improvement in his first season as head coach, it was not enough for new owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber.  Before the promotion, Smart had spent seven seasons as an assistant at Golden State and three years with the Cleveland Cavaliers as an assistant and interim head coach.  Smart is most widely known from his college days at Indiana where he hit “the shot” to lead the Hoosiers to the 1987 NCAA championship over Syracuse.

As of today, Coach Paul Westphal’s staff consists of Jim Eyen and the newly hired Keith Smart and Bobby Jackson.  There is no official word on Truck Robinson, Mario Elie or Otis Hughley at this point, but they are not considered part of the current staff.

Update #1:  Coach Westphal added via text that “Both will be great additions to our staff!”

Update #2:  Sources have confirmed to Cowbell Kingdom that Otis Hughley, Truck Robinson and Mario Elie are no longer with the club.
