The Los Angeles Kings defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 at Staples Center on Saturday night. The “70s” line, made up of Tanner Pearson (#70), Jeff Carter (#77), and Tyler Toffoli (#73) led the way with two goals in the second period.
The Blackhawks started the scoring on a shorthanded goal from captain Jonathan Toews. Slava Voynov then evened in up for the Kings on the same powerplay.
However, it was the defending champions that took the lead once again, and like the first time, it was Toews who potted the goal. Wingers Bryan Bickell and Marian Hossa made beautiful passes on the boards to get the puck to the front of the net, where Toews was able to shove it past goaltender Jonathan Quick.
The Kings came back strong in the second period, and Tanner Pearson set up Jeff Carter in front of the net to tie it up. Six minutes later, Tyler Toffoli scored on a breakaway through the neutral zone, and he put the Kings up by a goal.
Drew Doughty sealed the game for the Kings in the final period with a goal on a rocket from the blue line. Chicago goalie Corey Crawford had made key stops to keep Chicago in the game until that point.
Patrick Sharp scored a goal off of a deflection with under five seconds remaining in the third period. However, the Kings held on and are two wins away from the Stanley Cup Finals.
Game Four will take place Monday night at Staples Center.
