Kings extend qualifying offer to big man Jason Thompson

The Sacramento Kings announced they’ve extended a qualifying offer to fourth-year big man Jason Thompson. The move makes Thompson a restricted free agent come July 1.  The Kings had until June 30 to extend the offer, which allows them right of first refusal for any deal Thompson may get on the open market.

Thompson showed remarkable improvement in most facets of the game this season after beating out both J.J. Hickson and Chuck Hayes for the starting power forward spot alongside DeMarcus Cousins.  He finished with season averages of 9.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in 26 minutes of action, but showed remarkable growth, especially on the offensive end.

At 6-foot-11 and 250-pounds, Thompson has the ability to play either the forward or center position and should have no problem finding offers once free agency begins next week.
