Updated Kings Injury Report: Gay and Collison out

Gay-and-Anderson

Updated Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 3:55pm

The Kings injury report for today’s matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans has been updated and it’s not good for Sacramento.

  • Rudy Gay continues to struggle with right Achilles tendinitis and has been downgraded to out for tonight’s game.  The veteran forward has played through pain for the last week and is averaging 21.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 36.7 minutes a night.  With Gay out, coach Malone may look to mix things up a bit.  Last week he admitted that his plan was to use Ray McCallum and run a three guard set against the Pelicans if his star forward was unavailable, but that was before Eric Gordon went down with a torn labrum in his left shoulder.  Don’t count out Omri Casspi or Derrick Williams as potential replacements options as well.
  • Darren Collison joins Gay on the sidelines with a left quad contusion/muscle strain.  The Kings starting point guard is off to a great start, averaging career-highs in points (15.9), assists (7.0), rebounds (3.5) and minutes (35.3).  With Collison unavailable, either Ramon Sessions or McCallum will start in his place.
  • Last on the list is reserve point guard Ramon Sessions.  Sessions was initially listed as questionable with a right knee strain, but he has been upgraded to probable.  The veteran guard is off to a very rough start this season, posting career-lows across the board.  Sessions’ 5.2 points per game is less than half his career average, but in his lone start against the Dallas Mavericks back on Nov. 11 he chipped in 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting in 36 minutes.

According to the Kings “Participation Status Key,” Sessions’ probable status makes him a 75 percent chance to go.  We will keep you updated on the status of each player as we find out more.
