Kings injury update: John Salmons right quad, Marcus Thornton kidney stone

  • Still nursing an injured right quad, John Salmons practiced at half-speed today.  According to head coach Paul Westphal, the Kings forward participated in offensive and defensive drills.  Salmons also got shots up on the second court while the team scrimmaged.  “He had a real painful day yesterday,” said Westphal.  “But I thought it was good to have him back and he’s cleared for full action, too.”
  • More on Salmons from Salmons himself:  “Feeling better,” he said.  “Getting better everyday.  I did some more moving around today, so it’s looking good.”  Salmons adds that he thinks he’ll be ready to go for Monday’s home opener against the Los Angeles Lakers.
  • Marcus Thornton sat out practice yesterday, suffering from a kidney stone.  He feels much better today. “I’m feeling great,” Thornton said.  “I’m feeling a thousand times better,” he continued.  “I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.  It hurts like crazy, but (trainer) Pete (Youngman) took care of me at 4 o’clock in the morning.  So I’m back and I’m ready.”
  • DeMarcus Cousins banged his left knee in practice today.  He wrapped it with ice during the last few minutes of today’s scrimmage.  Westphal wasn’t concerned and believes Cousins will be fine.
  • The team also commented on the medical clearance of Chuck Hayes.  We’ll have video reaction of that posted within the next hour.
