In what is likely the first of multiple moves at today’s NBA trade deadline, Cowbell Kingdom confirmed that the Sacramento Kings traded Ramon Sessions to the Washington Wizards this morning for veteran point guard Andre Miller.
With 16 seasons of NBA experience under his belt, Miller, who turns 39 in March, reunites with George Karl, his former head coach in Denver. The duo worked together on two separate occasions with the Nuggets, the last being Karl’s final season at the helm during the 2012-13 season.
Miller has played in 51 of Washington’s 54 games this season, averaging 3.6 points and 2.8 assists in 12.4 minutes a night as John Wall’s back up. If nothing else, he will provide support behind Darren Collison and help Karl implement his system during the team’s final 30 games.
Sessions, 28, had an off year in his first season in Sacramento. In 36 games, the eight-year veteran averaged a career-low 5.4 points and 2.7 assists in 17.8 minutes per game. He shot just 34.4 percent from the floor and an abysmal 21.4 percent from behind the arc and missed time with a lower back injury.
By dealing Sessions, Sacramento saved nearly $2.2 million off the team’s salary cap for next season. Miller is in the final year of his deal that will pay him $4.6 million this season, but he has maintained that he would like to continue to play.
