The Kings sign Lawson and give themselves options in other areas

There was no secret that Ty Lawson was looking for an opportunity to play again and today, the Sacramento Kings decided to give him that chance by awarding him with a one-year deal.

It’s a win-win for both parties. The Kings are in desperate need of a point guard and Lawson will get a fresh start to showcase his much improved versatility according to him in multiple interviews over this offseason.

Earlier in July of 2016, Lawson had confirmed to Cowbell Kingdom that he had interest in playing for the Kings. Now it’s official. With so much uncertainty surrounding the future of Darren Collison, this move has definitely eased much of that pressure Vlade Divac was facing.

Now, there is no need to trade Rudy Gay for a point guard. That doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future, but it never seemed that teams were willing to offer the Kings anything close to what they were asking for.

Instead of getting less talent in return for a player who is on a great contract, the Kings will have a nucleus to be competitive as long as they buy into what Dave Joerger preaches.

The Kings can now relax and know that they have a guard who was once regarded as one of the upper-echelon point guards in the NBA.

Will he ever get back to that level? Only time will tell but Lawson is certainly excited to be in Sacramento.
