It’s a matinee affair at Sleep Train Arena today as the Sacramento Kings host the visiting Brooklyn Nets. The road team comes into Sacramento with a 5-3 record and two days rest after beating Boston Celtics at home on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Kings continue reel after a week of distractions and have lost their last four games.
The Nets are in a new city, new arena and have a whole new makeup as they push to become one of the Eastern Conference’s elite teams. Head Coach Keith Smart was complimentary of Avery Johnson‘s squad following practice yesterday.
They’re a pretty deep basketball team. They have size. They have guys who are great isolation players, guys who can play within a system, a low post presence, even their wing players can create mismatch problems on the low box. So, this team is built for one big dynamic reason. This team is not built to just make playoffs; this team is built to try and go into the playoffs and win big. So we’ll have our hands full, but on any given night or any given Sunday, you can simply go in and play with the right spirit and the right heart and do some things on the floor that put you in the position to win the game.
No matter who is starting for the Kings, the point guard battle will be a fun one to watch. Deron Williams possesses a unique mix of traits that make him one of the league’s elite lead guards. However, don’t count size as one of the characteristics that make him a tough match-up according to Isaiah Thomas.
He’s just a great ballhandler. He’s real crafty. You don’t know what’s coming at you. It’s not like he posts up a lot or tries to iso you on the post. He’s a great ballhandler that can make plays and we just gotta slow him down.
Tip-off between the Kings and Nets is at 3 pm. Follow Cowbell Kingdom today for continued pre and postgame coverage.
