After dismantling the Charlotte Bobcats on Sunday, the Sacramento Kings return to action tonight against the Denver Nuggets. The Kings enter this evening’s game on one day’s rest while the Nuggets fly into Sacramento coming off a victory over the Atlanta Hawks yesterday night.
The Nuggets are the NBA’s preeminent team when it comes to the fast break. Their transition game has led them to blowout the Kings in four of their last five meetings. Keith Smart plans on slowing down the pace and letting his team execute in the halfcourt. He hopes to punish Denver inside with DeMarcus Cousins and Jason Thompson.
I’m going to try to utilize the post up game – things like that – because you have to take advantage of some situations on the post because that helps your floor balance a bit better.
The Nuggets are one of the top teams in the Western Conference and are on the verge of making their 10th straight postseason appearance. They are a team that isn’t built on the success of one, two or three premiere players. That’s led to some skepticism about their championship aspirations, but John Salmons believes they’re a threat in the postseason.
They’re a really good team. I feel like they got a shot – the way they play, the way they get up and down, how many people they can bring in off the bench. They’re very deep, very athletic and they attack the paint. When playoff time comes, getting shots in the paint is huge in the playoffs. If they can do that in the playoffs, they can make a run.
Tip-off between the Kings and Nuggets is set for 7 pm PT. Visit Cowbell Kingdom throughout the day for continued pre and postgame coverage.
