In the last home game of the 2016-17 NBA regular season, the Sacramento Kings will take on Devin Booker’s Phoenix Suns for the fourth and final time. The Kings will also take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday for the final game of the season.
The Kings are coming off a 135-128 loss against the Houston Rockets at Golden 1 Center and a loss to the Lakers the previous Friday. It has been an extremely tough stretch for the Kings who are currently battling for lottery positioning in the upcoming draft.
“It’s just learning how to adjust,” Labissiere said after the loss to the Rockets. “You play different guys in the league. Guys in the NBA are talented, so you’ve just to figure out how to guard people, make it hard for them at least.”
As they take on the Suns, it will be extremely important to see if the Kings will be willing to go all out for their fans one last time, or play the lottery route.
First matchup: 113-94 Kings. This was the first game of the regular season and the Kings set the tone and the excitement was high from Kings fans. At the time, Rudy Gay was healthy and playing at a high level. He finished with 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and was a +26 for the night. Defensively, he was also amazing. He finished with four blocks.
Second matchup: 105-103 Suns. This game down to the buzzer as Suns guard Devin Booker hit the game winning jump shot. Booker finished with 33 for the night. The Kings had four players in double figures (Darren Collison, Ben McLemore, Ty Lawson, DeMarcus Cousins.) Turnovers are what killed the Kings as they had 13 for the night.
Third matchup: 107-101 Kings- Another close game between these two. We will never forget the career night from Skal Labissiere: 32 points, 11 rebounds on 11-of-15 shooting from the night is what helped seal the deal for the Kings. It was at this point Labissiere started to find his calling in the NBA.
The Suns were awful from 3-point range having shot 6-of-25 versus the Kings’ 6-of-14. Booker shot 6-of-26 and the Suns just looked out of it the entire game.
