Kiwi Gardner: The Mighty Mouse Of The Warriors (Photo: @letsgowarriors Instagram account via Mashable.com and @kiwis_back Twitter account)
Sam Laird of Mashable last season wrote a brilliant piece on the YouTube-enabled journey of Kiwi Gardner‘s college and professional basketball career. Excerpting any part of it here wouldn’t do it justice. It’s a must-read.
That’s why he had this reaction when Golden State Warriors assistant general manager Kirk Lacob gave Gardner the news that he would be on the 2014 NBA Summer League team:

“I think fans are going to enjoy Kiwi play,” summer league assistant coach and Santa Cruz Warriors head coach Casey Hill told LetsGoWarriors.com earlier this week by phone, “As for the Golden State Warriors, this is a 100% testament to his work ethic.
“Kiwi has put in a lot of work. He came to Santa Cruz with a great attitude. Anything that we can see him do will be a sign of his ongoing development. I’m really happy and excited for this awesome year and great summer.”
Gardner averaged just 5.0 points per game last season for Santa Cruz but scored double-digits in 14 of his 42 appearances off the bench. The 5’7″ guard had season scoring highs of 23 and 20 points.
“The best way to describe Kiwi is the personification of Mighty Mouse,” Hill added, “He finishes with extreme vigor. He gets frustrated when you go by him. You’re going to see a great teammate doing his thing. It’s going to be a lot of fun anytime on the court. It’ll be a lot of energy out there.”
