WARRIORS PRACTICE FACILITY, OAKLAND, CA — Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson explained his “redemption” game to reporters at morning shootaround today.
Three nights ago, Thompson scored just 10 points at the Dallas Mavericks, but less than 24 hours later, rebounded with a 16-for-27, 38-point performance against the Houston Rockets.
What was the difference?
“My energy both ends. It was embarrassing the way we played in Dallas, especially for me personally. I thought I wasn’t myself,” said Thompson.
“Honestly, I wasn’t that down. I’ve been in this league long enough now to know that you can’t get too down on yourself,” said Thompson of his 4-for-15 shooting night against the Mavericks. “There’s 82 games, so you’re going to have a handful of bad games.
Last year on the road, Thompson shot just 5-for-13 for 13 points at the Cleveland Cavaliers, but came back the next day to go 9-for-18, 5-for-8 downtown, good for 25 points against the Toronto Raptors.
Two years ago on the road, he shot 2-for-10, 0-for-4 from downtown, at Houston, only to come back the next night at the Memphis Grizzlies and tally 30 points on 12-for-19 field.
“I realized that, ‘You know what? Quick turnaround. No time to pout because you’ve got to come back and play a great player in James (Harden) the next day’…I let the game come to me and I was just taking what was open.”
