Klitschko Lands His Iron Fist, KOs Chambers

IBF/WBO/IBO Heavyweight Title Fight – Saturday at Dusseldorf, Germany
Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KOs) KO 12 Eddie Chambers (35-2, 18 KOs)
Official time of the knockout: 2:55 in round 12

Philadelphia’s Eddie Chambers made it a point to assure everyone that he was not afraid of Wladimir Klitschko leading up to their Saturday night title fight in Germany.  Unfortunately for Chambers, he words rung hollow as he did his best Joshua Clottey performance in allowing Klitschko to hammer him at will.  Not to say that this was an action packed affair, as it was not.  Save for a body slam performed by Chambers in the second, the fight seemed typical of a Klitschko fight; jabs, with the occasional right hand.  But boy, what a right hand Klitschko has and he used it to finally break the guard of Chambers in the closing seconds of the fight to put Chambers out for the night.

IBF Junior Middleweight Title Eliminator – Friday at Durant, OK
Sechew Powell (26-2, 15 KOs) 12 Majority Dec. DeAndre Latimore (20-3, 16 KOs)
Scores: 117-111, 114-114, 116-112

Some fighters just go well together; such seems to be the case with Powell and Latimore.  Their first fight back in June 2008 was a real barnburner with Latimore stamping his ticket to a title shot by upsetting Powell by knockout in Powell’s hometown.  Though Latimore would drop his title effort to Corey Spinks, the St. Louis native had established himself as a force to be reckoned with at 154 lbs.  Friday night’s rematch produced the same great ebb and flow drama of their first encounter, but this time Powell fought a more cerebral fight.  Using his edge in overall boxing skill, Powell managed to land his jab, straight left hand, and then move safely out of Latimore’s reach.  The tactic worked beautifully as Latimore was never able to get set and land those giant bombs of his.
