Report: Knicks, Sixers talking Amar’e Stoudamire trade

Hold up the phones! The New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers are talking about a possible trade involving Amar’e Stoudamire and Iman Shumpert. Now, let’s get this straight right now. Phil Jackson contacted the Sixers not Sam Hinkie contacting the Knicks.

The Sixers have had many discussions since last week involving teams trying to get rid of big contracts such as the Houston Rockets trying to get rid of Jeremy Lin. With the Sixers having $30 million under the salary cap, teams see them as a dumping ground for outrage contracts, which brings up Stoudamire.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, if the Sixers were to take Amar’e Stoudamire’s contact they would want a young asset in return such as Iman Shumpert but as Berman says the Knicks do not want to do that. Remember, before the draft, Shumpert’s name was being brought up in numerous trade rumors as many people thought the Knicks wanted to trade into the first round.

If the Sixers could find some way to get the likes of Shumpert, it would help the offense tremendously as he would be their starting two guard right off the back. A backcourt of Michael Carter-Williams and Iman Shumpert is not bad at all. The Sixers would then have two guys on their team with high top fades.

But this is still a wait and see to see if Phil will even budge. It’s the Zen master versus the master of analytics and something tells me Jackson will not give up Shumpert at the expense of Amar’e Stoudamire.
