Bob Kravitz says Coyer does “whatever works”. He also quotes that asinine stat about Colts’ points scored in playoff losses. Look, there have been 8 games. Two of them were really bad. One of those was all on the defense anyway (41-0 to the Jets). Averages don’t work so well over small sample sizes.

There is no signature on a Larry Coyer defense. His guys don’t come off the bus blitzing the quarterback. His players don’t spend all afternoon rushing four and playing the cover-2. There is no signature, no gimmick, nothing that says, “This is a Larry Coyer defense.”
A Coyer defense, which the Indianapolis Colts are running with great success for the first time this charmed season, is a hybrid of several established styles. A Coyer defense is, to be plain, whatever works — whatever works in a particular game situation, whatever works with his current personnel. It’s about subtlety and nuance, dialing up the right defense at the right time.
