I cannot bring myself to worry about this. I think investing in a backup QB is a waste of time. No Peyton and this team isn’t going to win. Period. No matter what crappy vet they bring in.
Let’s say Manning, well, you know. Let’s say it’s for one game. Well, one game can be the difference between earning and surrendering home-field advantage. One game can even mean the difference between making and missing the playoffs.
There seems to be this idea that if Manning, well, you know, the Colts are completely sunk, have no chance of winning and might as well punt the season. In the past, that might have been true. But this is a pretty well-rounded group. This defense, which has all 11 starters returning (plus, you hope, Bob Sanders), figures to be one of the top 10 defenses in the league.
The Colts can win some games with defense, as long as the backup quarterback doesn’t lose it.
