Kreider Going Pro After Boston College Season?

During Glen Sather’s post trade deadline press conference he said this about the Rangers depth at forward (via the Daily News)…

“We’re fine with it, and we have kids in the minors as well. And we have some other people that are gonna probably turn pro at the end of the school year.”

…whoever could Sather be talking about? Assuming not 2007 draft pick Danny Hobbs who is currently a senior year at UMass.

…now turning pro also means playing in the AHL, so this doesn’t necessarily mean Kreider will be wearing a Rangers uniform in April.

Kreider better pan out because the Rangers basically gave up on Nash because of him. No pressure kid.

Jess Rubenstein at The Prospect Park doesn’t expect the Rangers to use a year of Kreider’s entry level contract on just the playoffs because its way too risky if he’s not ready.

Instead, Rubenstein thinks they’ll sign Kreider to an ATO (amateur tryout contract) and as Carl Hagelin did last season, play in the AHL playoffs with the Whale.

Kreider has 19g, 17a in 34 games this season.
