Kristaps Porzingis is stealing the show across the NBA landscape. It doesn’t matter if he’s featured in front of a local or national audience. It’s undeniable: nobody can get enough of the rising Latvian star right now.
Porzingis is taking the entire basketball world by storm, and his latest honor is simply further proof. After leading the Knicks to a 3-1 record and averaging 33.5 points on 54% shooting to go with 6.8 rebounds and 3.3 blocks, the big man has undisputedly been named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week for week three of the young season. He shares recognition with Western Conference representative James Harden.
After starting the season 0-3 and looking rather defenseless despite Porzingis’ strong play to start the season, New York has come together and the 22 year old has taken things to a whole other level, looking like the most versatile and effective offensive threat on the hardwood. Opposing defenses are making adjustments as he continues to soar, but Porzingis continues to rise above it all. Winners of five of their last six games, the Knicks now boast a much more promising 5-4 record on the year. Porzingis has scored 30 or more points in 7 of his team’s nine. He put an explosive exclamation point on his stellar week with a career-high 40 points in a thrilling come from behind win over the Pacers on Sunday.
It remains to be seen how much longer (or how consistently) Porzingis can keep this up, but however long it lasts, it appears to be a ride that not many will forget anytime soon. New York is in for something special with him leading the way.
