It was the end of the first round of the playoffs and four drivers were going wind up eliminated at the end of the day after 400 laps at Dover.
Martin Truex Jr. started the race leading laps as Kyle Larson got hot and took the race lead on lap 25. Kyle got lead over 30 laps and then Martin Truex Jr. was able to get the lead back. The long green falg run continued and around lap 82 it was green flag pit stop time. At lap 87 we get the first caution of the day as Jeffery Earnhardt winds up smashing into the barrels trying to get onto pit road which brought out the red flag. After a lengthy cleanup the cars that did not stop yet do.
As the race restarted Brad Keselowski was in the race lead and was leading lap after lap to take the first stage. Leader pit with Kyle Busch winning the race off pit road. Matt Kenseth picked up a speeding penalty exiting pit road.
The second stage started off with Kyle Busch leading laps as Kyle Larson was getting hot and took the race lead at lap 141. At lap 167 we get new caution as Reed Sorenson winds up smoking big time. The green flag racing with Kyle Larson leading more and more laps. At lap 219 it was unscheduled pit stop time to replace a loose wheel for Kevin Harvick. The rest of the laps in second stage went by quickly and Kyle Larson won the second stage. The leaders pit and Kyle Larson keeps the race lead.
The Third stage started off with Chase Elliott Leading laps. We got one long green flag run here and around lap 320 we get green flag pit stops. After they were over Chase Elliott was back to the race lead. The super long green flag run continues and around lap 372 Denny Hamlin wound up slow on the track, but made it to pit road and did not bring out the caution. As the green flag laps continued to quickly go down Kyle Busch was chasing down Chase for the race lead. With under 5 laps Kyle was right behind Chase for the race lead. With 2 laps left Kyle was right beside Chase for the race lead and took it. Kyle was able to win the race. Ryan Newman, Austin Dillion, Kasey Kahne, and Kurt Busch wound up not advancing to the next round of the playoffs.
“That was everything I had,” said Kyle Busch on the race win.
“We weren’t good enough,” said Ryan Newman.
Austin Dillion said he was really good that first long green flag run.
“Bummer the last two runs,” said Ricky Stenhouse Jr. who moved on to the next round.
