The second round of the Xfinty chase started today at Kansas with a bunch of drivers looking to get into the next round of the chase for the championship.
“Really like this track,” said Elliott Sadler.
The race started off with a long green flag run and Kyle Busch leading lap after lap. Kyle Larson had to start in the back, but was up in the top 20 in under 5 laps. Around lap 47 we got the start of green flag pit stops. By this time under 15 cars were on the lead lap. Daniel Suarez led a couple laps under this time period, but after they were finally over Kyle Busch was the leader again with just 12 cars on the lead lap.
We finally get the caution at lap 58 for fluid on the track. Under the caution time Ryan Seig stalled out on the track. When the race finally restarted Erik Jones was able to lead a few laps before Kyle Busch took the lead back and then at lap 69 Cole Custer spun out to bring out the caution. A second short green flag run occurs and Cole Custer at 77 spins out once more to bring out another caution. Leaders did not pit under this caution.
The restart was a clean one and Kyle Busch won the battle for the race lead as Kyle Larson quickly moved up to third with his fresh tires, but it was a short green flag run again and at lap 87 it was caution time again as Ray Black Jr. spins out. Most cars on the lead lap pit and Darrell Wallace Jr. gets the race lead as he does not pit.
Kyle Busch though when the race restarted easily took the race lead. At lap 103 it was caution time again for Derrike Cope that stalled on pit road. A new short green flag lap occurs and we get a debris caution at lap 111. When the race restarted Joey Loagno was able to get the race lead, but only had it for a couple laps as Kyle Busch was back leading laps. This became a news long green flag run and aroun lap 147 it was pity stop time for drivers. At lap 158 we get the debris caution with only three cars left on the lead lap. A whole bunch of cars take the wave around with Regan Smith in the race lead as the race restarted. The caution though quickly came out as a bunch of cars wreck including as Justin Allgaier, Cole Custer, Darrell Wallace Jr., and other cars wreck.
“Unfortunate circumstances,” said Darrell Wallace Jr. on the wreck.
When the race finally restarted Ty Dillion was in the race lead. A few laps go by and Erik Jones gets the race lead and then the caution comes out for Brendan Gaughan that spins out in the grass to bring out the caution.
The race restarted with 18 laps left and Ty Dillion and Erik Jones get together, but do not bring out the caution. Damage was bad enough that Erik Jones had to come down pit road as the caution came out for debris.
With 12 laps left the race restarted and Kyle Busch was back in the race lead. Another caution did not show up and Kyle easily took the race win.
“Had really great speed,” said Kyle Bush.
